Tracing its history back directly to the original members, the act was trademarked in 1945 by Jim Nabie for the purpose of preventing other imitation acts trading off of the name. The Ink Spots started as a signing group in Indianapolis, Indiana. Over the years, the act achieved multiplatinum status. Well beyond the disappearance of the other imitation acts, the original group has continued to perform under this 1945 trademark.
The Ink Spots trademark survives. No other intellectual property rights are recognized or authorized for use without explicit permission. The trademarked act strives to maintain the sound, style, harmonies, appearance, stage presence and history of the act as originally intended, and as it was trademarked in 1945. Historical references are required with permission, along with its listing amongst other credits, for usage of the name. Usage of the trademark must be reviewed prior to permitted usage as to maintain a correct historical impression, intended to leave lasting memories for years to come of this famous act.
The trademarked act uses only experienced musicians familar with the musical styles of the Big Band Era. For booking and usage permission of the trademark, please contact Mr. Jim Vogelman, Musical Director at (252) 452-2054.
